The Long Kiss Goodnight

6 out of 106 out of 106 out of 106 out of 106 out of 10

This movie was pretty good, although I still do not understand the title. Directed (by Geena Davis' husband, Renny Harlin) in somewhat of a lighthearted tone, the movie was interspersed with a lot of action. What was particularly thrilling about the movie was how it changed from scene to scene. Each scene either ended or the next one began with something jolting. The action was great.
Geena Davis did well as a schizophrenic amnesiac. It was definitely her eyes that did most of the acting and made her character believable. She played two very different people, yet was able to bring them together in the end. It was quite interesting. Samuel L. Jackson was once again very entertaining. He was somewhat the comic relief but also provided someone to root for as Geena Davis's character was in constant development taking many radical turns. The only other actor worth mentioning is one who had a rather small part, and whose name I do not even know. If you see the movie, however, he has a beard, an old wife with a dog, and always has a gun near his pelvis. If you have seen it, you know who I'm talking about. He was very funny every time he appeared.
What I did not like about this movie was its villains. They were rather weak. This movie also fell into the following age-old trap. The bad guys assume that the conditions of which they they have placed on the hero(s) will kill him or her, and they decide to leave the scene which, of course, creates a wonderful opportunity for the hero(s) to escape. Another cliché about the movie is that towards the end, when the plan of the bad guys is not clear, as a final wish of Charly/Samantha (Geena Davis) the entire plot is explained. Furthermore, it is evident once again that Hollywood does not trust the government as this time the CIA is partly responsible for the World Trade Center bombing.
thumbs up!Overall, this is a fun movie to watch, although it does get unbelievable at times. But I would recommend seeing this movie. However I must warn you that the language is pretty crude throughout.
