I took my three-year-old daughter to see this movie not quite knowing what to expect. I had seen the cartoon a couple of times with her on TV. The stories of Madeline (rhymes with "nine") first appeared as a series of children's books in 1939 by Ludwig Bemelmans, but I have never read them. Anyway, I was happy to find out that this movie is very well done and I quite enjoyed it. The plot that was constructed for this movie was perfect. It showcased many Madelinesque adventures as well as providing a major dilemma to consider: the fate of the school.
What I loved best about the movie was Miss Clavel, the nun who runs the French boarding school. Miss Clavel is played by the Academy-Award-winning actress Frances McDormand. She was perfect. Seeing her get all worked up over Madeline's adventures was just great. McDormand is what made this movie entertaining to me. What was also very humorous about this movie was the cartoonish way in which the girls lived. One great scene from this (shown below) is when they brush their teeth. Each girl has their own sink and they all brush their teeth at the same exact time. I was just cracking up.
