Mulan is a great movie. It is entertaining in every respect and can be appreciated by all ages. I was either enchanted or laughing throughout the whole movie, and my 3-year-old daughter was riveted to her seat as well.
Mulan is the story of a young Chinese girl who is bold enough to not only go to war in her father's place, but to break all molds that her society and tradition have laid out for her. Disguising herself as a man, Mulan fights two battles. One is that of defeating the invading Huns, and the other is that of preventing herself from being revealed as a girl.
Mulan is also a story of honor. This is best seen in her father, whose every word and every move indicate wisdom, experience, and honor. Other notions of honor and wisdom throughout the movie make it truly inspiring.
This movie is also very funny. Mulan is accompanied on her mission by a tiny dragon with big plans named Mushu. Mushu's voice is spoken by Eddie Murphy who really brings the character to life and provides some of the best animated comedy since Robin Williams played the Genie in Aladdin. Mushu had the entire theater laughing multiple times throughout the movie.

The villians in the movie (the Huns) are great. There is something mystifying in their arrogant confidence. I also tip my hat to Disney for leaving some of the truly terrible things that the Huns do in this movie up to the imagination. This makes them somehow even more mysterious, powerful, and evil to the adults, while at the same time it does not scare the kids making them cry and want to leave.
The music in Mulan is good, but it seems that lateley no animated feature has come close in the musical department to what I call the fab four: The Little Mermaid, Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. Anastasia has been perhaps the closest in recent years.
My favorite quote from the movie: "The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all."
EVERYONE should see this movie!
